What the PSC does (plain English):Sets electric and natural-gas rates and rules for Georgia’s investor-owned utilities (e.g., Georgia Power, Atlanta Gas Light); reviews big power projects and who pays for them; enforces reliability and consumer protections.
Why this matters:
PSC decisions directly affect your monthly power and gas bills, how quickly utilities adopt new technology, and how cost overruns on major projects are handled.
How voting works: Even though commissioners represent districts, all Georgia voters cast ballots for each PSC seat up this cycle. This year that’s District 2 and District 3.
District 2 (statewide vote)
Tim Echols (Incumbent) – Current commissioner/vice chair seeking re-election.
Alicia Johnson (Challenger) – Business/energy policy advocate.
District 3 (statewide vote)
Fitz Johnson (Incumbent) – Appointed in 2021; running to keep the seat.
Peter Hubbard (Challenger) – Clean-energy advocate; won the Democratic primary runoff.
