July's Bridge Spotlight focuses on Home Accessibility, Repair & Modification Resources—programs and organizations that help people create safer, more accessible homes.
Many people assume home modification programs are only available for older adults. While seniors are an important group served by these programs, home accessibility resources may also be available for veterans, people living with disabilities, families caring for children with special needs, and homeowners facing mobility or safety challenges.
Simple improvements such as wheelchair ramps, grab bars, widened doorways, improved lighting, bathroom modifications, and other accessibility upgrades can make a meaningful difference in helping individuals remain safe, independent, and connected to their communities.

Southwest Georgia Regional Commission (SWGRC)
The Southwest Georgia Regional Commission (SWGRC) is a regional planning and community development organization that works with local governments and partners to strengthen communities throughout Southwest Georgia. In addition to housing and aging-related initiatives, SWGRC supports programs focused on transportation, economic development, workforce initiatives, planning, and community services.
Featured Program
This program helps eligible older adults reduce fall risks and improve home safety through accessibility modifications that support aging in place. Eligible improvements may include safety and accessibility modifications designed to help seniors remain independent and safely in their homes.
Nehemiah Project Community Development Corporation
Nehemiah Project Community Development Corporation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through housing, neighborhood revitalization, education, economic empowerment, and community development initiatives. In addition to home repair programs, the organization offers a variety of services designed to improve housing stability and create stronger neighborhoods.

Working in partnership with the City of South Fulton, Nehemiah Project Community Development Corporation assists eligible senior homeowners with the application process for the City's Senior Home Repair Assistance Program and helps connect qualified residents with available funding opportunities.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
The VA offers housing adaptation grants that help eligible veterans with certain service-connected disabilities make accessibility improvements such as wheelchair ramps, widened doorways, bathroom modifications, and other adaptations that support independent living.
Rebuilding Together
Rebuilding Together is a national nonprofit dedicated to repairing homes, improving accessibility, and helping low-income homeowners—including seniors, veterans, and people living with disabilities—remain safely in their homes. Local affiliates also offer volunteer opportunities and community revitalization projects.
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army offers a wide range of community assistance programs that vary by location. Depending on local funding and community needs, services may include emergency financial assistance, utility assistance, disaster recovery, housing support, case management, food assistance, and seasonal programs. Some locations also partner with organizations providing home repair or disaster-related housing assistance.
USA.gov – Home Repair Assistance

Georgia & Metro Atlanta Resources
HouseProud Atlanta
HouseProud Atlanta provides no-cost home repairs that help low-income senior and veteran homeowners remain safely in their homes. Their work includes accessibility improvements, roof repairs, HVAC replacements, handrails, porch and step repairs, plumbing, and other critical health and safety projects. HouseProud also offers homeowner education and connects residents with additional community resources.
HopeWorks
HopeWorks is a Georgia nonprofit serving income-eligible seniors and widows through critical home repairs, heating and cooling replacements, mechanical repairs, and compassionate support that helps residents age safely in place. The organization also works closely with community partners to connect homeowners with additional services when appropriate.
